The Amazing Grace Daily Thought and Message for Monday 3.13.06

Hey, You Look Like You've Put On Weight

We hope your weekend went well. Hard to believe it's Monday already. Aren't you glad there's no dreaded Monday the 13th, like Friday the 13th? Monday is challenging enough without that added burden.

Yesterday at church, one lady uttered to another lady the 7 deadly words that are sure to pierce the skin of any woman, "You look like you've put on weight." How could someone be so callous, especially at church. It's bad enough to say those words to a man, but to say them to a woman is like landing a sucker punch in a boxing match. You're dazed for just a moment. To make matters worse, the remark was totally unfounded and without merit. Perhaps the woman was trying to deflect her own weight problem on someone else. We should all be careful of what we say and the words we choose. Think about what you say before you say it. I'm reminded of the Book of James:

9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? James 3:9-11

Monday's are especially problematic when it comes to taming the tongue. So as you go through the day, think about what you're going to say and the impact it will have on the other end.

Monday Scripture

James 3:16

16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

Philippians 2:14-15

14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
