Come Blow Your Horn in Boone

I mentioned yesterday that Amazing Grace Radio is based in Boone , N.C. I came to Boone in 1975 and fell in love with the area. Of course, then I was a college student so I was not really living in the real world. But it was just a quiet, peaceful place with not too many people.

My how things have changed. A good example is what I witnessed yesterday. A car was turning right. The light was red and for some reason the car turning right chose not to turn right on red. There was opportunity to do so, but the car stayed until the light was green. That decision did not please 3 of the cars waiting behind the car turning right, so they started blowing their horns in desperate frustration. I was watching this from a short distance feeling sorry for the driver of the right turning car. I also wondered if the hornblowers considered why the car did not turn. Perhaps the driver was elderly or was distracted by something in the car. Regardless of the reason, it was their choice and just rude to blow your horn. I'm just glad I didn't see a fish emblem on the back of the hornblowers car.

Boone has obtained many big city qualities. Somehow, it grew up. Please, the next time you are considering blowing your horn because someone is not moving fast enough, please stop and consider why they're not moving. Use that moment to say a prayer for them and yourself. Try to keep Horn in the West an outdoor drama, instead of a daily occurrence at a stop light.
