Compromising Christ

Here’s a question for you to think about. If you were asked to pray for a large public gathering at a sporting event, but you were also asked to not mention the name of Jesus Christ, would you do it? I ask because while driving to church yesterday, that was discussed by a host of a Christian radio station talk show. The Christian host had been asked to pray, but to leave Jesus out. He accepted the invitation and prayed, “in His name”. The host said he compromised because he thought he could still plant some seeds even without mentioning the name of Jesus Christ.

My first thought was, what kind of seeds are you planting if you leave Jesus out of the mix. He is the mix. I also wonder if the host would have still left His name out if he knew Jesus was sitting in Section 10, Row 5, Seat 7.

Well, He might not have been in that particular seat, but He was there.

It seems compromise is the cousin of political correctness. So the Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, and other religions of the world will not be offended, we leave out our Lord and Savior. The Bible is very clear:

Matthew 10:32-36

32"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to turn
   ”‘a man against his father,
      a daughter against her mother,
   a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—
36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

So what would you do? Leave out Jesus Christ? Try to sew seeds without Jesus? I would have declined.
