It's Hard to Be Humble...
When You're Perfect in Every Way
The title of today's Daily Thought and Message was actually the name of a song recorded by country singer Mac Davis. Sadly, it's also the philosophy that many live by today, both Christians and non Christians.
Take a moment and think about all the people you know that are truly humble and without enormous pride and ego. How many can you come up with? It's seems in today's world, the meek are a true endangered species. Jesus talked a lot about the meek and the humble. Luke 16:15 says,
He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.
In Mark 9:35, Jesus said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."
And in Matthew 5:5, He said," Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Isaiah 5:21 says,"Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight."
Being humble has indeed become a lost art. In today's world, words like meek, humility, and submission, carry a negative connotation and would not be used to praise someone. Everywhere you look, from the church pulpit to politics(especially politics), ego's are out of control and foolish pride reigns supreme.
You see it in churches, restaurants, schools...you see it in almost all public places. Most can't let it go and still others have no clue they act with such pride and arrogance. It's a very sad state to be in.
Stand back for a moment and look at yourself and the words you use. Are they prideful, boastful, hurting, ego driven? if so, ask Jesus into your life to clean out the demons. Admit that you're not perfect and you are going to fail at times and make poor choices. Remember, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. It's also hard to be a follower of Christ.
