Investment Counseling by J.C. Are you looking for a good investment counselor? I’ll share my source with you and He’s very reliable. In fact, He’s even called ‘Wonderful Counselor.” He won’t share a hot stock tip or recommend a top mutual fund and you might think his methods are a little radical, but His track record is 100% and your retirement plan will be good for eternity. His office is not on Wall Street and sorry, He doesn’t even have email or a website. But, He’s closer than you think. How do you schedule an appointment? Just open the door and invite him in and let Jesus Christ transform your life.
Jesus spoke often about money in the Gospels. There was the story of the rich, young man who could not let go of his material possessions to follow our Lord and Savior.
Mark 10:21-23
21Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
22At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!"
Hebrews 13:5
5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Most people, especially here in the U.S., are not content with what they have. They always want something bigger and better…a bigger house, a widescreen TV, designer clothes, a bigger car, and so on. To achieve all of these desired material possessions they must work longer and harder than before and usually increase their debt load plus compounding the stress load. It’s a vicious circle that even the strongest of God’s children fall into. It also takes your focus off your Lord and Savior. You don’t have time for God because you’re working to pay for the new SUV or mega TV. Then when you do have a moment, you feel like you need to be enjoying your new toys that you’re working so hard for. Again, God takes a back seat.
Psalm 37:16
16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
In the last couple of years, I have given away almost all of my major material possessions. (Even my widescreen TV, Gasp!) Doing so brings abundant freedom. You should try it. Rid yourself of those material things you now worship and turn your focus to the Lord.
Also, turn off the TV and use that time to volunteer at a non profit organization that assists those less fortunate, like The Outreach Center in Morganton, N.C. I work at The Outreach Center and have found that about 60-70% of the volunteers are former clients, those that came for help, got back on their feet, experienced the hand of grace, and now come to give their time and help those in need. Few of The Outreach Center’s volunteers are wealthy, but all have a heart to help. Most have learned to be content with what they have. You might say you don’t have time to volunteer and some do not. But count up how many hours of TV you watch weekly.
I think it all goes back to living a Christ centered life. So many wealthy families today think they don’t need Christ in their life. They have a few million in the bank and a comfortable life, so they don’t need God. Such a sad mistake.
I’m not speaking against wealth. Just use caution that it doesn’t become your God and take your focus of Jesus Christ.
