Coach Jerry Moore

Amazing Grace Radio broadcasts from Boone, N.C. This area is one of the most beautiful anywhere, with gorgeous mountains, cool summers, snowy winters, and Godly people. It's also home to my alma mater, Appalachian State University. Tonight, ASU plays for its second consecutive national championship in football. To be sure, this is no small feat. But ASU is blessed to have a mighty man of God as its coach, that being Jerry Moore.

I've known Coach Moore for 16 years. I knew him long before I was saved and respected him then. But I respect him even more now. When I think of Coach Moore, one word comes to mind...humility. I also think of 1Peter5:6, which says,

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Coach Moore has had great teams at ASU, but the national championship had always escaped him until last year. He had come close many times, and now, more than likely, will win 2 in a row. But regardless of where he finishes the season, Coach Moore is the same, humble person, always giving God the glory. Humility is a lost art, and mostly extinct in the coaching profession. But the exception is Jerry Moore. He attends Mt Vernon Baptist Church in Boone and his faith has flowed to the rest of the team. Many of the players hold a weekly Bible study.

If I sound like a big Jerry Moore fan, I am. He doesn't command respect from anyone, and certainly never would, but that is exactly what he gets from everyone. One other thing I like about him is that he stands his ground on email. He doesn't do email. None. He will not go there. I interviewed him about 2 months ago and he told me because he doesn't have an email account, it drives many crazy. But in typical Jerry Moore fashion, he said, "I don't need email. Don't even try to email me. You know where to find me."

May the Lord richly bless you Coach Moore. Thank you for preaching the Gospel to so many but using few words. GO APPS!!
