The Mission Field

Happy Tuesday! I have never been on a mission trip. Many of my friends have and they speak of how it changed them in many ways. Terry Henry longs to return to Africa and help our friends with The Joshua Foundation build a radio station in Tanzania. He speaks of Africa often, how he is drawn to it spiritually. Mike Stroud also speaks of how a mission trip to Central America changed his life. I hope to go on one someday. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting someone who is always on a mission trip.

David Windley works with East-West Ministries in Dallas, Texas. I met him yesterday at Cheap Joe's Art Stuff in Boone, N.C. David is friends with Joseph Miller of Cheap Joe's and we talked about his work

. This is David and his wife Sharon.

If you're not familiar with East-West Ministries, Click Here to visit their website. Here is their Mission Statement and Vision:

Mission Statement
To glorify God and show our love for Jesus Christ, East-West Ministries International exists to help indigenous church leaders in strategic locations around the world fulfill the Great Commission by:

 evangelizing the lost;
 training church planters, pastors, and other ministry leaders;
 planting new churches; and
 developing mature churches.

Our goal is that the leaders we train and the churches we help plant and develop be doctrinally sound, grace-oriented, spiritually thriving, and multiplying.

Our Vision
Working together with our team around the world and focusing on limited access countries and peoples, in the ten years between 2003 and 2013, we are praying that God would use us to;

 Expose 50 million people to the gospel
 Establish at least one church in 100 different unreached people groups
 Train 10,000 leaders for church-planting movements
 Establish 1,000 grace-oriented churches

Since 2002, East-West Ministries has:

  • Introduced the Gospel to more than 3 million people
  • Worked in 30 countries with unreached people groups
  • Trained more than 18,000 nationals for Bible work and leadership
  • Opened more than 600 churches

It's an amazing work, especially since I believe we are living in the last days before the return of Christ. David is getting ready for another trip to evangelize in Cuba. I asked him if it was a dangerous place? He said as long as you kept a low profile, just going door to door and no public gatherings or open evangelizing, you would probably be ok. But he said there were many other countries more dangerous where many of their missionaries remain anonymous to protect their identity. I realized as I was talking to him that I don't pray enough for these dedicated servants of God. I ask that we all pray more for the missionaries out in the world spreading the good news of the Gospels. Many put themselves at risk in order to save the lost. God Bless them all.
