The Apathetic Christian (Part 3) Today we wrap up the series on apathy in America and in the church. Why has apathy become an epidemic in this country and in the church? I think there are many reasons: Our lives are just too busy with work and family and we barely have time to go to church and certainly no time to help out at the church or a local non profit or we're financially so secure that we don't want to hear about other people's problems because we're happy living in our little world or we had just rather stay home and watch American Idol or Survivor. Now, are these valid excuses...Ask the Lord. We'll close this with an apathy joke, provided by our friend Cristy Dixon... A pastor had become frustrated with his congregation for their lack of enthusiasm for the Word and their lack of involvement in God's work.
He pondered the source of their lack of devotion. During his next church service, the pastor asked his congregation this question:
"Which is worse-- ignorance, or apathy?
His question was followed by a long period of silence by his congregation. The pastor refused to continue his sermon until someone gave him an answer.
Finally, a man with a look of annoyance on his face stood up and replied,
"I don't know.....
and I don't care!"
