The Beauty of Simplicty We play a song on Amazing Grace Radio by the group Telecast called “The Beauty of Simplicity.” That is so very true. There really is beauty in the simple things. There was a time in my life, not so long ago, that I was caught in the material game. That’s the game where the next thing…a home, car, TV, spouse, whatever, must be bigger and better than the last, and as Pastor Holly Johnson talked about yesterday, you must be on the “A” list. God forbid if you actually were to go down in stature, like moving from a $50,000 SUV to a Ford, eating fast food, or dropping off the “A” list. Well, I lost it all and yes I now drive a Ford. But along the way I have learned the beauty of simplicity. I have learned why Jesus said, “You cannot serve both God and money.”(Matthew 6:24) Too many worship their bank account, too many define themselves by the car they drive. The love of money and material goods takes your focus off Christ and opens the door for the enemy to wreak havoc in your life. I’m not preaching against money and wealth, just be careful that it doesn’t become your God and rule your life. I have a friend that has chosen to live a simple lifestyle, drive an older car, and live in a smaller house so his wife can stay home with their children. It also keeps them closer as a family because they are not always working every minute to make another dollar to buy the next, great thing. It’s a lifestyle choice that I greatly respect. It’s the beauty of simplicity. Jim Jernigan
