The Monday Mask

It’s another Monday. It’s also making sure we have our masks securely in place before we head back into the office, because you always get the Monday question…”How was your weekend?”

Almost always, regardless of how our weekend went, we answer…”Fine.” Your weekend could have brought severe tribulation, it could have been the worst time of your life, but with your mask in place, all appears to be well.

Our masks. We all wear them and not just on Monday, but everyday. It’s the shield we rely on so that our real being will not be exposed. You’re convinced that if they really knew me, they wouldn’t like me. If they really knew what I was like, they would not be my friend. We all have many masks, depending on the occasion, like work, church, home, the grocery store, even in prayer. Often, we rely on the masks for so long that our real identity is clouded over.

What would happen if we take all our masks and toss them in the fire? Is that possible? John 8:32 says,

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

My challenge to you and myself is to allow less on masks and more on Jesus Christ. Our masks are our security blankets. Perhaps we should let the Holy Spirit wash us in the security of our Lord and Savior.
