The Waiting Room

by Jim Jernigan

Have you ever thought about the waiting room at your doctor or dentist's office? You are there, waiting till they call you back. It could be 10 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, 2 hours, it could be half a day. But there you are, waiting. Waiting for ever how long it takes. Waiting. You read the year old magazines, catch up on admiring the office decor, wonder how many deadly germs you're inhaling, but mostly...waiting. You are at the mercy of the doctor, till he's ready to see you...waiting.

Now, put yourself in another waiting room, the Lord's waiting room. You notice right off that the magazines are all current and the decor is just....heavenly. So there you are, sitting and waiting on the Lord. Waiting to be called back. An hour passes, another, finally half a day goes by. By this time your cell phone and laptop batteries are completely dead. Another few hours pass...still no Lord. A whole day passes, still nothing. Finally, after convincing yourself, you get up and walk out of the office knowing that you can fix it, besides, He's probably to busy. So, you walk out of the Lord's waiting room, attempt to fix the problem, sustain a few bruises and bumps (or worse) , and finally return to...The Lord's Waiting Room.

It's amazing how we can wait almost forever for our doctor, but when it come to waiting for the divine doctor, our patience is very short. So much so, we usually take matters into our own hands, with very mixed results.

So, if there's a situation in your life that is requiring patience and wating for the Lord, it is our prayer that you can do so. Isaiah 30:18 says Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
