~Faith of Unbelief~

by Dewey Fox

And He wondered at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching. [MARK 6:6] [NAS]

~Jesus teaching at Nazareth, His own country~

Jesus chose to limit His healings of sick folks when there was unbelief. I say chose to because He could have continued many healings with the folks not having any faith, but He chose not to. We have this example when Jesus went to his own country, Nazareth. Let us look at these Scriptures in Mark 6:1-6.

1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4 But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.[MARK 6:1-6] [NAS]

Verse four is one of my favorite verses; it strikes home with me. How about you? It’s hard to reach your family, kin and friends. They know you. They knew every time you made a mistake or fail short. There unbelief in you limits you in reaching them for the Lord and ministering to them. It reminds me of that definition of an expert, “A stranger from out of town with a briefcase.” I’m sure you’ve had the same experience when you go out of town or meet a stranger. They immediately take you for what they see and what you are; they don’t know your faults and short comings. You can minister to them and help them to come to know the Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. They will listen to you. All of that being said, “Don’t give up on your family, kin and friends.” The Lord may get a hold of them one of these days.

Praise the Lord for His wonderful salvation and hope. You have a great day!
