Justification by Faith

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, [ROM 5:1] [NAS]

~Results of Justification~

Henry Matthew Commentary has a few words to say about when we become a true believer and Romans 5:1. Let us look at his comments below.

“A blessed change takes place in the sinner's state, when he becomes a true believer, whatever he has been. Being justified by faith he has peace with God. The holy, righteous God cannot be at peace with a sinner, while under the guilt of sin. Justification takes away the guilt, and so makes way for peace.” [Matthew Commentary]

It’s worth repeating because we are justified by faith, not anything we can do or pay for will get us in the good graces of God. We have to admit we are sinners and ask for His forgiveness. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, [ROM 5:1] [NAS] Some Christians are trying to get into heaven by their works. These Christians are mighty workers for the Kingdom, but that won’t get them to heaven. Only when they accept Jesus as their personal savior will it be the first start of getting them into the Kingdom.

When we have faith in Jesus Christ, we became sons or daughters of God.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.  [GAL 3:26] [NAS]

What are we saved by? We have been saved by grace through faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Ephesians 2:8-9.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; [EPH 2:8] [NAS] not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.  [EPH 2:9] [NAS]

Let us see what the Wycliffe Commentary had to say:

“Works in the Scripture are the product or fruit of salvation, not the cause of it, “Lest any man should boast.” There will be no boasting in heaven because there will be no one there who has anything to boast about (1Co 4:7).” [Wycliffe Commentary]
