~Questions about Faith~

by Dewey Fox

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; [PHI 1:27] [NAS]

~Questions about Faith~

The questions may be asked; - How many faiths are there? - Which faith is the correct one? -- How must we seek out that faith?

-There is only one true faith.

There is only one faith; how do we know? See Ephesians 4:4-6, it reads;

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. [EPH 4:4-6] [NAS]

If you believe the Bible and have faith in what it says, then you have to believe that there is only one true faith as it says in Ephesians.

-It is the Faith of the Gospel.

Since we know that there is only one faith, now, what is that faith? To find out, we go to Philippians 1:27, it says: Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; [PHI 1:27] [NAS]

The Bible is the true Word of God and is the only authoritative word for the world today.

-We must contend earnestly for it.

Now that we have one faith, which we know is the gospel of Christ, we are to contend or seek-out that one faith of that one Gospel.

Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. [JUD 1:3] [NAS]

Jude emphasizes the important relationship between correct doctrine and true faith. The truth of the Bible must not be compromised, because it gives us the real facts about Jesus and salvation. The Bible is inspired by God and should never be twisted or manipulated; when it is, we can become confused over right and wrong and lose sight of the only path that leads to eternal life. Before writing about salvation, then, Jude felt he had to set his readers back on the right track, calling them back to the basics of their faith. The way to salvation would then be clearer.

Hope this reading of God’s Word was a blessing to you and a blessed day in the Lord you will have.
