Gone Without a Trace By His Amazing Grace by Pastor Timothy Fortune
In Jeremiah 31:31-34 the Lord is talking about a day that will come when He will make a new covenant with His people. In verse 34, the last part, He says, “For I will forgive their iniquity and their sins I will remember no more.” Today we are living in that new covenant. The reason that our sins can be forgiven and remembered no more is through Jesus Christ. His blood was shed for our sins and all of humanities sins. What an amazing thing to know that if we confess our sins to God He is faithful and just to forgive us. (1 John 1:9) Not only forgiven us but also remember our sins no more. WOW, what an amazing God He is! He gives us a clean slate. When I was about to graduate from high school I got into some trouble that involved the law. The day I was standing in front of the judge, with my attorney pleading my case, I was put on probation for a period of time. The judge also told me that if in that period of probation I got into any more trouble, not only would the new charges be brought against me but also these old charges would be brought up as well. Now, just for the record I didn’t get into any more trouble. That was my first and last time being on the wrong side of the law. The point I want to make is the law would forgive me and as long as I didn’t get into any more trouble I would not face any more consequences. But that is not the way it works with Jesus. When we are repentant, ask His forgiveness, turn from our wicked ways then He gives us forgiveness and that sin is gone without a trace. So when I make another mistake He doesn’t bring up my past error and hold it over my head. Once a sin is forgiven by God it is forgiven forever. Never to be remembered again. It is by His amazing grace that He forgives us and remembers of our sins no more. None of us deserve this… we all deserve to be punished for our wrong doings. Yet because of His love for us and His willingness not to see anyone perish without the opportunity to accept His free grace and forgiveness, we can have new life in Christ Jesus. Please don’t take this as a free license to sin. Every day we should strive to live a life that is pleasing to God. We should make it our aim to walk in a way that honors and exemplifies the teachings of Jesus. But know that when we do make a mistake his grace and forgiveness is there. When we ask for His forgiveness our sins are gone without a trace because of His amazing grace!
