Roller Coaster Ride

By Timothy Fortune

“Life is a journey not a destination”. I have heard that many times and never really comprehended the full meaning of that simple statement. But it is so true, life is constantly moving and flowing. One never really reaches a place were they can say I have arrived at the pinnacle of life. For in life there are always new challenges to deal with, new obstacles to over come, new people to reach, new foods to try and so on. The journey of life has many different turns and twist but that is the beauty of it. You never know what lies around the next bend but with anticipation you move on because the journey keeps going. It is a journey filled with laughter and crying, happiness and sadness, ups and downs, but in it all if you have your faith in God then you can really understand that life is a journey and none of the ups or downs are destinations but events that happen along the way.

Have you ever thought about a roller coaster? What makes it so exciting and thrilling? It is the ups and downs, the twist and turns, the cork screws, the rush of being propelled thought the air at 50 or 60 miles per hour. We ride these rides and get off, only to find the next high-speed thrill-giving roller coaster. We strap our selves into these massive machines for the thrill of getting the “Experience” of that particular ride. We know we are going to be safe because the ride has been tested and is inspected every morning. The creator of the ride has calculated ever detailed part of the ride, complete with all kinds of safety features. So, we throw caution to the wind and strap ourselves in for a 30 or 40 second ride. Our hair gets messed up, we scream at the top of our lungs and lift our hands in the air. (I am getting a rush just thinking about it.) Then we get to the end get off and are ready to do it again.

The journey of life is a lot like those roller coasters. What makes life so exciting is all those up’s and down’s and twists and turns. We are on the greatest roller coaster of them all...Life. We don’t need to worry because the creator of life has tested it and we are in His hands. We just need to throw caution to the wind, enjoy the ride, and let our hair get messed up, scream at the top of our lungs and lift our hands in the air. We only get to ride this roller coaster one time. Don’t allow those up’s and down’s to scare you. Put your trust in the living God who has you in the palm of His hand. When you are falling over that 100 foot drop just lift your hands up in praise to Jesus and scream to the top of your lungs and enjoy the ride. Scripture says in Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning.”

Life is a journey. Whatever part of the journey you are in celebrate it and make the most of it! The secret of the journey is in having your faith in the one who gave you life. His name is Jesus Christ.
