Self-Fulfilling Prophecies
In the past several months I have heard this phrase often,” Self-Fulfilling Prophecies”. What do we think of this phrase? Is this some sort of play on words, or perhaps a theological phrase? Well, the truth is, this is a fact of life each of us deals with. You may ask, how do I experience “Self-Fulfilling Prophecies”, and the answer is simply “our words”. Recently I heard a story of a doctor who, as he prescribed medicines to his patients, would also tell them to say several times a day, “I am getting better everyday in everyway.” The patients that followed the doctor’s orders seem to get better faster and became healthier than those that didn’t. Now you may think that is coincidental, but our words really are powerful. Scripture tells us faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, or faith comes by hearing God’s word. I believe if we will allow His words to become the words that we speak our lives will began to be transformed into the abundant life that Christ Jesus came to give us. But, if we are going around talking about how bad life is, saying, “nothing good ever happens to me”, “ I’ll never get promoted”, or “nobody wants to be friends with me”, then that is exactly what we will receive. Sometimes making the transition to speaking God’s word takes some discipline. We need to change the way we think. As those negative thoughts come to you, right then you make a choice to accept them or cast them down... and you do have the choice. You must start thinking the thoughts God has towards you, and the way you know what He is thinking is to read what He says about you in Scripture. The words we speak are the paint and brush we use to paint a portrait of our lives. Too many times I find myself saying and believing what is happening to me at the present instead of saying what God wants to do in my life. We must not allow ourselves to become victims or prisoners of our circumstances. As God looked out across the empty vastness of nothing, He spoke and then the worlds were formed. What if He had never spoken......would anything have happened? I don’t believe so. If God had to speak it out, then who are we to think that things are just going to happen without us having to speak it out? Now don’t misunderstand what I am saying. We cannot lie around on the couch and just speak that God will pay our bills provide us the food we need, NO. Faith is an action word. We must do our part. Start your morning off by maybe speaking something like this: “Father, I thank You that You have provided everything I need for this day, I am blessed and cannot be cursed, everything I put my hand to prospers, every part of my body functions perfectly as You created it, thank You for the angels You have placed in charge over me, no evil shall come to my home, let Your favor be upon my life so that I am in the right place at the right time. Thank You, Father that You are completing that good work You began in me, I can do all things through Christ, I am more than a conqueror and this day is filled with Your goodness.”
