THANKSGIVING

The power of thanksgiving is one I think many of us overlook. The power of thanksgiving in the life of a believer can open up doors and even cause miracles. When we look at the life of Jesus, He understood this. Matthew 15:32-36 tells of the story when Jesus fed the multitudes. In verse 36 it says, “and He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks…” The simple prayer of thanksgiving I believe caused the loaves and fishes to be multiplied. Now was it enough in the natural to feed all those people? NO. But Jesus didn’t focus on the lack. He was thanking His Father that these loaves and fishes in His hands were enough. Thanksgiving and faith go hand in hand. If we believe our God is who He says He is, then we need not look at the circumstances that sometimes surround us. Instead, we take Him at His word with thanksgiving and watch what He does.

We as Christians should be quick at thanksgiving and slow to complaining. What do we have to complain about? We have been given eternal life, joy in the Holy Spirit, we have a family that loves us (the body of Christ) and we could go on and on. No matter how bad you think things are there is something you can be thankful for. It’s a choice to be thankful; there is nothing magic about it. You choose to be in that pool of misery and ungratefulness; just as easy as you got in you can get out. Train your mind to be thankful.

Stop, look around you today, count the many things you have to be thankful for. When we begin to see life through the eyes of thanksgiving I believe our attitudes will change and we can experience life abundantly.

Other scriptures about thanksgiving:

2 Timothy 3:1-5, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanders, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.”

Colossians 4:2 “Continue earnestly in prayer being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;”

Philippians 4:6&7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplications, with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
